Mindfulness and the Art of Living Creatively
In a changing world with ever increasing demands on our time, how do we determine what matters most to us, and focus our creative energies accordingly?
Mindfulness is an inherent human capacity that has been practiced for millennia to address this question. As scientific evidence for its benefits have mounted, the primary mindfulness practice of meditation has entered the mainstream of medicine, psychology, education, business, professional athletics and other areas. In paying attention to the present moment, as it is, with a kind and open attitude, we learn to see more clearly how thoughts, emotions and habits impact our behavior, health and quality of life. With regular practice, even over a short time, mindfulness opens and nourishes deep inner resources of creativity and well-being.
In this four week course, participants will be invited to explore the power of mindfulness as a way of opening to the possibilities for creativity in daily living. The class will be taught in a supportive group setting, and will include training in formal and informal mindfulness practices. In addition to specific exercises in mindfulness, homework will include readings and journaling on creativity in daily life.
This course is appropriate for alumni of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and other meditation training. However, no prior experience in mindfulness practice is required.
Source readings will include chapters from the book Wherever You Go, There You Are, by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
