In this presentation, Dr. Jafari will share her experience in creating a course titled, “Life 101” for her students and how simple yet effective life lessons can result in wellness.
Dr. Jafari is a scientist, a professor and a wellness coach to many of her students. In her research laboratory at UCI, using human cultured cells, fruit flies and mice, she studies the impact of dietary supplements and botanical extracts on aging. Her ultimate goal is to slow the aging process and add healthy years to human life. She is the recipient of a number of teaching and mentoring awards including the 2008 and 2013 UCI Distinguished Professor Teaching Award, 2008 UCI Chancellor’s award for Fostering Undergraduate Research, and the 2011 and 2013 UCI Pharmaceutical Sciences Outstanding and Inspirational Professor Award. Her research on botanical extracts earned her the UCI Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine Discovery Award in 2012. She was also selected among “20 women to watch in Orange County” by Orange County Metro Business Magazine.
Dr. Jafari received her doctorate in pharmacy and completed her residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She has held a number of professor and scientist positions in academic and pharmaceutical companies. She was recruited back to UCI in 2005 after a successful career as a senior scientist at Abbott Laboratories to develop the new Pharmaceutical Sciences Undergraduate Degree for UCI. She is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Director of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Undergraduate Program.
