The Harvard Health Publications calls the Chinese mind-body practice of Tai Chi “Medication in Motion”. In this presentation, Dr. Lin will describe the latest clinical trials and laboratory research showing that Tai Chi can increase body flexibility and balance, strengthen muscle function, relief stress, boost immune response, reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol, improve mood, enhance blood flow, and elevate body energy measured as heat, light, and electricity. These results will be discussed within the context of how to enhance health and healing for people of all ages.
Speaker: Shin Lin, Ph.D., is Professor of Cell Biology and Biomedical Engineering, and faculty at the Susan Samueli Center at UC Irvine. With decades of experience practicing and teaching Tai Chi, his research is focused on measuring physiological and bioenergetic changes associated with mind-body practices. He is currently Co-Chair of the World Congress on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a member of the National Advisory Council on Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
